How I Restored my Edges/Hairline.

Twists with "Brazilian wool"
A lot of ladies complain about their edges receding and this may be attributed to our hair care practices. We use all sort of tools, protective styling techniques with or without extensions that can make our hair jump out of our scalp or perform a disappearing act.
Looking back, I am happy about my decision to go natural. It has helped me take better and proper care of my hair. I have also learned the virtue of patience because taking care of kinky hair involves a lot of work....no kidding. There are some practices I adopted when doing a protective style with extensions so the hair around my edges could grow. The "brush" style is one of them with focus on my frontal hairline. I make sure the hair stylist does my hair this way because there isn't so much tension on my edges. As the braids get older and begin to hang, I take them out due to their weight on my hair strands.

Relaxed days....my edges were screaming for help.
The hair is pulled back a little bit before it is braided. I have noticed that this technique really works for me since I don't want my edges to disappear...lol. I also massage castor oil into my edges specifically the Natural Nigerian brand. Castor oil is said to stimulate hair growth and a little quantity is needed because it is a very thick oil.

I think the reason its called "brush" here in Nigeria is because the front area where the style is done gets rough quickly and you would need to brush it so it's laid down. For the brushing, I use a "toothbrush turned hairbrush" with medium bristles so it's not too hard to pull my hair out or too soft to do the work.

Here is a recent picture of my hairline below (though I haven't added extensions to my hair in close to 8 months). I also make sure I do not make my puffs or bun too tight. That can cause a lot of tension to your edges causing what is known as traction aloepecia.  I use black shoe lace as my head band alternative.
